The 15 yard exists for one reason: the 10 yard runs out of height before it runs out of floor. Both containers are 12 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, so they occupy identical space on a driveway. The difference is 18 inches of wall, which converts to half a ton of extra allowance and roughly 25 more garbage bags for $75.
That makes it the value pick of the small containers for anything bulky. A garage, a bedroom, a bathroom gut or one room of flooring all land comfortably inside it, and the truck needs no more room to deliver it than it would for the smaller box.
When the 10 Yard Is Still the Right Call
Dense debris flips the logic. Concrete, dirt, tile and plaster reach the tonnage with the container half empty, so the extra height buys nothing you can legally use. For those loads the 10 yard at $465 is cheaper, and single-material dirt or concrete belongs in the flat rate container where nothing is weighed at all.
A simple test: if you could not lift a five gallon bucket of the material with one hand, weight will end the load before volume does.
Where the 15 Yard Stops Being Enough
A whole-house cleanout, a kitchen with cabinets or a roof over 15 squares will overflow it. That is the point where the 20 yard takes over, adding four feet of length for $75 more. One container that fits always beats two deliveries of a smaller one. For demolition or cabinetry from several rooms, skip straight to the 30 yard, or the 40 yard on commercial work.
